A weekend full of ADVENTURE! {video and pictures!}

Last weekend was a full of adventure!  Islands of Adventure and Adventure Island, that is!  We squeezed MOSI in and I hosted a lovely Bridal Shower in Ft. Lauderdale for one of my best friends (more on that soon), too.  My husband had a conference in Orlando and the cconference attendees had 5 hours to visit Islands of Adventure and the entire theme park was closed to everyone except them!  How marvelous is that?  So, he took our three oldest children and they had an amazing time with dad!  On Sunday, we planned a trip to Adventure Island after we received an email that due to our Busch Gardens membership passes, we were allowed one free visit in September to Adventure Island.  Yeah buddy, we were all over that one.  And since my in laws were still watching Nam (since I was out of town the day before) we opted to just bring our 3 true swimmers and oh my goodness, what a splashin' good time!  I have fond memories of AI as a child, but have never been to the park with my own children.  And honestly, if it wasn't free we probably would not have gone...just seemed a little out of our league.  Boy was I wrong!  We enjoyed the wave pool, splash areas, HUGE slides (and our 3 and 4 year olds were able to ride on as long as they wore vests!), beach area, and lazy river.  I had to suck in my preggie pooch so I could go down some of the big slides ;)

It truly was a wonderful experience and I am very thankful we did not bring our non-swimmer as it would have been incredibly challenging participating in all the activities.  I was absolutely exhausted by the time we left 5 hours later.  Watch our video below!

Hurry up, mom!  We want to ruuuuuun!
 Silly pose!
 Posing with their life vests in order to ride the BIG slides!

 WeeeeEEEEE!  Thao even went down a few times by himself!  woa!  Such a brave 3 year old!
 *sigh*  I adore this photo...so thankful for our water proof camera that I toted along.  I would have missed out on all of these special photos!
 Pure joy in the tunnel!
 Part of the Splash Attack play area!
 Minh spent the majority of his time figuring out the water contraptions.

 Cooling off in the Lazy River.
 The Wave Pool!  So thankful we decided to keep their vests on.  The kiddos were exhausted by this time.
 Minh must have attempted this atleast 10 times!  So proud of him for not getting frustrated and giving up.

Sunday Supper Meal Plan

Wow.  How long has it been since I've posted a meal plan!?  Honestly, recipes have been the last thing on my mind over the past 11-12 weeks...even thinking about food, well, yack.  ha!  But I can feel the shift within my body and morning sickness is slowly tapering off.  Such a relief and such joy!  Our recent dinner staples of tomato soup, grilled cheese, and plain pasta are now being replaced with much healthier dishes!  Here we go, friends!  And a few photo's from the past week, of course.  :o)

Minh is a Blokus warrior!  We love this game :)
 Nam can now sit at the table and play with toys.  He squeals and giggles in delight every time he gets on the chair by himself!
 Trip to the Aquarium!
 They always run to hold their big brothers hand when they walk through the "spooky part."

Top Ten Tricks as a Mama of Four {So Far!}

Linked to top ten list

Every day is an extreme learning experience for me with four children and one on the way.  I like to think that most days I am on top of things, but the past 8 weeks battling morning sickness have streeeetched me...and I am NOT afraid to admit it!  The past 48 hours I have felt a wonderful shift within my body.  We are nearly 15 weeks and my morning sickness is tapering off-what a glorious feeling it is!!!  And with this "shift," I have reflected on what tricks I had been using as a mother of four to make life not just manageable, but truly enjoyable...and hope to get back on track within the next week!

1.  Co-parenting, teaching and "Choring":  My hubby and I are on the exact same page when it comes to parenting, learning time, and chores.  There have been many some mornings that I have been too ill to do anything, and my husband has completely taken over with parenting, teaching the kiddos and doing ALL housework-laundry, dishes, clean up, ect.  Therefore, being on the same page with my husband and not even having to ask for help soars straight to the top of my list!

2.  Schedules, schedules, schedules!  Ohhh, how I have missed my scheduling over Summer!  Having our days plotted out ahead of time and what we hope to get accomplished makes life oh so much easier!  I've had people say I'm a control freak.    humph   Of course, those are people with no more than 2 kids.  Long gone are the days when I could wake up and just go with the flow or manage to get by without a game plan.  Usually my husband and I discuss everything the night before and life is so much more enjoyable when there's no last minute stress about "what to do?"  "what time?"

3.  Use the Same Calendar:  This sounds totally "duh!" but our MOPS Coordinator mentioned last year how many times people miss appointments or double book because they have individual calenders...and this is SO true!  We did and sometimes events didn't get placed on both of our calendars.  We now have one of the huge mama-jama ones on our counter and wow-what a tremendous help it has been!

4.  Lists around the house:  I recently started creating lists on the computer and putting them around the house.  It was has worked wonders for the kids!  Below is Minh's "To Do Before Coming Downstairs in the Morning" list and the kids "How to Brush Your Teeth" List and sign off sheet.  Those sheets are fabulous visual reminders scattered throughout the house!

Minh's List before he comes downstairs for breakfast.
 Rules for brushing teeth.  Also, the list below is for them to initial when they finished.

5.  Laundry Bins:  About six months ago I purchased laundry bins at Target.  They are individual vertical bins and I labeled each one with a family members name and one as linens.  When the kids dirty their clothes, instead of putting them in hampers in their rooms, they just put them in their individual bins.  Also, it makes laundry time a snap since all the clothes are already presorted and numerous times my parents have come over to help with the kids and have been so kind to assist with laundry!
7 bins in the laundry room labeled.

6.  Arrange your home in a way that works for YOU:  As my children grow, my needs change...especially with three BOYS.  We have done our best arrange our main living area into "learning stations" so we don't have a hodge podge of kid stuff all over.  The less there is, the more they will play with it.  We have a puzzle station, a computer/hw station, a dress up station, a toy station, books and advanced puzzles up on the shelves, and a table for puzzles.  Everything flows and is easily accessible.

 Puzzle station on left, hw/computer at desk, dress up trunk.

7.  Don't let the toys overrun your life!  The past 2 months I have been in survival mode...so toy clean up was on the bottom of the totem pole.  However, things are finally getting back in order!  We have 3 large plastic bins that are divided into Baby/Toddler Toys, Girl Toys, and Big Kid Toys.  We are blessed to have a large loft upstairs and that is where we dump organize toys that we rotate out and the kids had outgrown.

8.  Organization on the move:  Our Swaggerwagon is very organized.  Does it get messy sometimes, sure.  However, we have worked hard to make every inch completely functional.  We purchased the 8 seater 2 years ago (not the 7 seater with a mini jump seat in the middle) and this has been SUCH a huge
bonus to our growing family!  We took the passenger side middle row seat out which has allowed for a large open area within the van for diaper changing, potty time, luggage, and it makes buckling little kids a piece of cake!
You can see the 4 car seat and I always have a towel or sheet in the "hallway."  Look at all that space!
 I unfolded our on-the-go-potty.  What a life saver this device is!!!  It folds under the seat and uses gallon zip lock bags.
 My ergo in the middle and the 3 boxes of Snacks, Books, and Extra Clothes.  ps.  We do NOT allow the kids to eat IN the van...another decision that I believe has saved everyone lots of food battles and messes.

9.  Keep the bed and baths simple:  We don't allow toys in the bedrooms at night, so the clean up is relatively simple since the kids share rooms.  Same goes for the bathrooms.  Simplicity goes a long way! {the kids are asleep so I don't have photos of their rooms}

10.  Couponing, Meal Planning, and Freezer Cooking:  I have not couponed in nearly 8 weeks {gasp}.  And boy have I and my pocket book missed it!  I cannot WAIT to get my coupon binder caught up now that I can make it through the grocery store without getting sick!  haha  Also, meal planning has been a life saver for our family!!!  I hope to start up my Sunday Supper Meal Plans again this weekend...handling the smell of cooking food seemed so far off, but alas, we are close!

 Everything is labeled.  Reeeeeally messy right now, but give me a week!  It will be spiffy and organized again!

Our 3 year old can now swim to the bottom of the deep end! {Try New Adventures}

I am linked to ...and:

Thao is 3 years and 3 months old and can now swim to the bottom of the deep end!!!  We are sooo proud of him!  I am true believer in swim lessons and NO SWIMMIES.  It's an adventure that requires patience, some tears, and CONSISTENCY.  Having three children who are now TRUE swimmers is priceless.  Take a look at the video below to see him dive to the bottom and collect swim sticks.  Sorry for such a short and direct Try New Adventures...this pregnancy is kicking my bum!  :)

Why Do Your Children Always Wear Matching Outfits?

I've received this question quite often over the summer.  Especially since Nam is a little boy on the move, it's obvious that 4 children in the same color shirts is quite intentional.  Am I a mom that insists that everyone coordinates for the cuteness of matchy-matchy outfits?  Not hardly.  There are a handful of reasons for the same color shirts...

1.  So I can easily identify all my children at a crowded playground or facility.  When I had 2 walkers, I felt keeping track was very manageable.  However, now with 4 I need a trick so I can take 5 seconds and pin point each child.  Having the children in brightly colored MATCHING shirts makes it a piece of cake to identify them.  Also...

2.  If you do happen to lose sight, which has happened to me once, there's no stressing about "what color shirt are they in!?  What are they wearing!?  How can I have someone help me look when I can even explain what they look like!?"  In an instant I was able to yell out at the playground, "has anyone seen a little girl in a neon orange tank top!?"  Within 30 seconds a fellow mom spotted her on the high slide.  Safety is key and as a large(er) family, this color trick has and will certainly play it's part in keeping our family safe...I truly believe that.

3.  What colors are our shirts?  The kids shirts are:  Neon yellow, neon orange, neon/lime green, and bright red.

4.  Where do I purchase the shirts?  I found last year that Children's Place was the only store that had ALL the sizes (7 down to 12 months) in both genders int he same exact color.  However, this year I realized that their dyes were a few shades off between the boys and girls shirts.  So I found some shirts for our daughter at Target that had similar colors and they worked out pretty well.  I always buy tank tops and this winter I hope to find matching sweat shirts.

5.  Where did this idea come from?  I saw this on the Duggar's (which I LOVE!) about a year and a half ago.  Michelle and Jim Bob explained that by having all the children in the same color shirt it makes them easy to identify.  It was at this same time that our 3rd child, Thao (18 months at the time), had started to really run fast and have his own interests at the playground.  So I immediately understood their reasoning for this and took it to heart.

This little trick has helped us tremendously and has also decreased our laundry load since we're usually just rotating between the same shirts.  If you are outnumbered and find that keeping track is becoming a real challenge, I highly suggest this color matching idea!  Thanks Michelle and Jim Bob!  :)

Princess Ballet Camp!

This Summer we signed Hieu (4 years old) up for Princess Ballet Camp.  She had been talking non-stop  since her birthday in March about ballet class, and since I am not ready to be a chauffeur to and from a 4 year olds dance class quite yet, we decided to enroll her for 5 days, 9:30-11:30.  She was soooo excited!  On Friday they had a little performance for the parents but unfortunately I suffered a complicated migraine that morning and was unable to attend {pretty devastated}.  So my husband, parents, and 3 boys went to cheer her on!  Keep in mind, my daughter is very shy, quiet, and rarely smiles even with her friends...so although she might look miserable in the pictures, she had a great time and talked for weeks about her Princess Ballet Camp!

The shortest one in class, of course.  The girl next to her in the black became her little care taker over the week.  Taller girls love to treat Hieu like a little doll ;)
 LOL!  Sorry sweetie, you will NOT get a smile out of her!
 A partial move.
 Running in a circle.
 A little smirk!  Do you see it!?  Do you see it!?
 Refusing to twirl.
 She appears to be in a permanent dog paddle formation.
 Smart girl.  I wouldn't lay down on the dirty floor either.
 Vehemently protesting.
 Paired off.
 Group photo!!!  Still refusing to smile!
 I was so sad I missed her non smiling, refusing to move performance!  But am happy we got to make her Ballet dreams come true.  5 days for a four year old was sufficient in my opinion.
